Ginger Garlic Peppered Beef
Ginger, garlic and sesame oil - three key ingredients in Chinese cooking -
are combined with teriyaki sauce and keylime juice in this tasty fusion
recipe.
INGREDIENTS:
1 pound sirloin steak cut into 2 inch slices
1/2 white onion, cut into half moons
1 green bell pepper, cut into thin strips
1 stalk celery, sliced on the bias
1 tablespoon fresh ginger
3 tablespoons reduced sodium soy sauce
3 tablespoons pinapple teriyaki sauce
3 medium garlic cloves
3 teaspoons Asian sesamie oil, divided
1 half red onion cut into half moons
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 pound shittake mushrooms
pinch red pepper flakes
juice of 1 keylime
PREPARATION:
1. Combine the steak, white onions, green pepper, celery, ginger, soy and
teriyaki sauces in a container. Add garlic by pressing and 1 teaspoon of the
sesame oil. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
2. Heat the remaining 2 teaspoons sesame oil in a large pan. Add the red
onion and the steak/vegetable/seasoning mixture. Cook over medium heat until
the meat is cooked through (about 8 minutes), stirring often.
3. Boil water in microwave and dissolve the cornstarch. (If you don't have a
microwave just stir to dissolve the cornstarch into the water in a small
bowl). Add the cornstarch/water mixture and the mushrooms to the dish.
4. Saute until the mushrooms are heated through. Season with red pepper
flakes. Serve over rice or noodles and garnish with the key lime juice.
